Howdy. Glad you're here. Get your fill of my irreverent ramblings. I'll warn you in advance: I complain a lot. But if you can get past that, there's some good stuff here. Enjoy.

You'll listen to Joshua James if you know what's good for you...

I took my little sister, Maddie, to see Matt Nathanson live in concert at the Fox Theater in Boulder this weekend. It's kind of our sister thing, going to shows. I really enjoy having a sister that's up for any kind of concert that I drag her into.

Matt is a singer/songwriter who you probably haven't heard of. And that is your loss. Now, I'd seen Matt before in Austin, TX during one of my Austin City Limits adventures. He is, hands down, one of the most entertaining performers out there. Half great songs and amazing musicianship, half stand up comedy. Personally, I think part of the fun of going to see someone live is the banter. I love banter. Moral of the story: if you have a chance to go see him live, do it.

Now, if you've never driven in Boulder, I'm going to go ahead and recommend that you get a GPS before you go there. You may even want to learn how to figure out your coordinate based on the stars, because that honestly has to be the most confusing place to drive. Ever.

After getting us pretty lost in Boulder, I finally found the Fox and did battle with crazy drivers for about 20 minutes trying to find a place to park. Street parking on "The Hill" by the University of Colorado campus is not an easy task. The only spot I could find was meter parking... Which was great, seeing as though I've had next to no change in my car for a while now. But that's what happens when you live in the only place in the world where the do-it-yourself car wash costs $3.50 just to start.

After pumping an hour and thirty minutes worth of change into the meter for a timespan that would end up being closer to four and half hours, Maddie and I were on our way to the theater hoping that I wouldn't get a ticket (I didn't... It seems the law in Boulder is much more concerned with pulling over every person with a vehicle and not so much with the meters at midnight).

Back to the matter at hand: music you should DEFINITELY be listening to.

The opener for Matt was Joshua James, a dude I'd never heard of before. He came on the stage almost 40 minutes late, which I found VERY annoying (though, come to find out shows at the Fox rarely begin on time, so my annoyance may have been unnecessarily pointed at James). Once he hit the stage, no one was really paying attention until he sang his first word. James has a beautiful, whispery voice that commanded the attention of the room. I have never watched a performer that was SO unbelievable connected emotionally to his music. Most of his material is pretty sad, but it's really touching to listen to him sing about the subjects that obviously had a huge impact on his life.

Check out the video below. He opened with this song. Amazing.
